VED MEHTA was born in Lahore in 1934. His first book, Face to Face was published in 1957. Since then he has written many autobiographical works, including Vedi, The Ledge Between the Streams and Sound Shadows of the New World. 'Coming Down' is an extract from The Halcyon Days of the New Yorker.
