Cakes (Jaffer; popular brand of baked goods: Jaffa Cakes; ergo Cakes) pulled his seat forward, Chiffon (Kashif; non-Asians' mispronunciation: Kasheef; ergo Chiffon) climbed into the back seat and I got us cruising again, out of the car park of the Nautical College, a street away from Glasgow's Central Mosque. We were in a Mercedes E220 CDi with tan leather interior and nineteen-inch alloys. On coming into the mosque, before shedding his shoes, Chiffon had told his dad he needed to wash and then snuck out the other door. We were all supposed to be reading tarawih prayers; it was the third day of Ramadan and we were already skiving.
