David Mitchell

David Mitchell was born in Lancashire in 1969. He grew up around the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire and studied literature at the University of Kent at Canterbury, where he worked at a bookshop for a year. He began to write during an eight year stay in Hiroshima, Japan, between 1994 and 2002. His first novel, Ghostwritten, was published by Sceptre in 1999, and won the Betty Trask Award. His other novels are, number9dream, Cloud Atlas, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, Black Swan Green and most recently The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet. His work has been translated into ten languages. He is married and currently lives in Ireland.
