Sarah Waters

Sarah Waters was born in Neyland, Wales, in 1966. She studied English at the Universities of Kent, Lancaster and London. She has worked in bookshops and libraries, and in higher education, but began to write fiction in 1995 and now writes full-time. She has published four novels: Tipping the Velvet (1998), which was adapted for television by the BBC; Affinity, which won her the Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year award in 2000; Fingersmith, which was shortlisted for both the Orange Prize and for the Man Booker Prize in 2002; and, most recently, The Night Watch. She lives in London.
