Sebastião Salgado

Sebastião Salgado’ books include The Other Americas (1983) and Workers (1995). In 1995 he spent a month photographing Mumbai as part of a larger project on modern urban life. ‘The huge concentration of people and the explosive growth and migration,’ he says, ‘make Mumbai a model for the future of urban civilization.’ His photographs of Mumbia are featured in Granta 57. An exhibition of his work in India, sponsored by Christian Aid, toured the UK in 1997. His photographic awards include the Centenary Medal Award and Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. He is a member of the Network agency.
