I am a quite failed small press poet and otherwise freelance disability journalist when I can get the work. I have not secured myself with the academy on either side of the pond, as most within the literary genre do, and I am hurling along in quiet desperation on the dole, and on the last legs of my savings. I have always wanted to be a Granta contributor, and whether or not that ever happens, I have restored my support to them through 2012.

Ms. Muir's story is grimly tactile, if somewhat obvious in the conclusions one can draw from the suggested mortality of the pregnant wife, that if we are the species of mass consumption, then we only consume ourselves, but I may read this again, have I the time.
