Orange Prize

Rose Tremain has been awarded the £30,000 Orange Broadband Prize for Fiction 2008. Her winning novel, The Road Home, tells the story of Lev, a contemporary immigrant from Eastern Europe seeking work in Britain. Accepting the award Tremain commented: ‘This is a prize that celebrates women’s fiction and in this year when A. L. Kennedy has won the Costa, Anne Enright has won the Booker and Doris Lessing has won the Nobel, I think there’s a lot to celebrate.’
In 1983 Tremain was chosen as one of Granta’s first ‘Best of Young British Novelists’.
