More urban pseud stuff. Not everyone lives in London with an iPhone glued to their hand, not everyone even has English as their first language. I do find it curious when I visit London to hear the abbreviated speak there, littered with references to brand names. But all of life is not there. You need to get out of town more.

I thought this piece was very smartly written, and it made me consider my own origins as a writer. As a writing instructor, I'm always worried about the future of my students. I wrote a blog post in response. Check it out! http://www.craftyourdrafts.com/why-bother-writing-more-than-140-characters/

If ". . . trancing out.", lay behind the foundation of literature, maybe literature isn't worth much.

I'll never forget the Creative Writing advice from my high school English teacher: "Write stories that everyone knows but nobody else can write." I think that's at least somewhat on the periphery of what Englander is saying when he wants to write impossible stories.

Interesting read. However, I tried to see one of the above mentioned places on Google Maps and what I see is, at least in case of "Frederikkazerne, The Hague", the RHS of the satellite view shown blurred here is not so on http://maps.google.com/
Is the Dutch clutch getting released on the public view of its landscapes and buildings?

An interesting point, but I think that technology within literature should not be considered a limitation as such. Look at Gary Shteyngart's Super Sad True Love Story.
That book seemed to point to the inhumanity which was caused by technology, yet it also demonstrated the inability of escaping that humanity. I don't want to spoil the book for anyone that hasn't read it, but I think that technology poses a great opportunity for writers to explore the new space in which people exist in light of the advent of new technology.

When I read the title I wondered if this would be yet another eulogy to "old world charm". Even though I admittedly am very fond of the said charm, it does tend to get repetitive.
Glad this piece is tinged with a lot more reasoning.

A good man in Taimur! A streak for vengeance, implanted by the extremist forces, lives within him... but it does not contort him into a dark figure perpetrating violence further... rather he lives on with an unexplained hope. Seemingly, he does not have a place to plead justice.
What if he went on to kill his son's snatchers? May be some other Taimur is out there to render his justice.
