  1. [Neuroscience . . . where is it leading us?]

What if somehow, someone has managed to get inside the brain of Anders Behring Breivik, and has taken over his brain, has turned him into a robot?

What if this technology has been around for a while . . . say going back as far as the early 1960's?

    What then?

Lee H. Oswald, in a letter to his brother:

'Happiness is not based on oneself, it does not consist of a small home, of taking and getting. Happiness is taking part in the struggle, where there is no borderline between one's own personal world, and the world in general.'

Am just about to begin reading Libra by Don DeLillo , , , and can't stop thinking about that line by Geldof :

'the silicon chip inside her head, got switched to overload'.

  2. Stunning photos and an illuminating glimpse at what will soon be gone forever--more please!

  3. Thank you so much for this unique insight into life in Yangon. I have often walked by these grand but run down colonial buildings in the center of the city and wondered about what's inside. Now you have given me a glimpse of it. Great photography.

  6. Delicious desire.

    In a learned
    memory you
    can find the
    atmosphere that
    often appears
    near a luminous
    faith.

  8. This is a really fascinating interview. The fact that Mr. Terry rejects the term "African writer" really says something about how some Africans see their cultures positions in the world today: as cosmopolitans, with as much diversity as any other culture on the planet. I would love to read Mr. Terry's work. Where can I find this short story, "Stickfighting Days"?

  9. La juventud de la palidez.

    El sol duerme
    en la eternidad
    de un cielo
    cristalino como
    un grupo de
    rosas que recuerda
    silente la voz
    de la vida.

    Francesco Sinibaldi

  10. La force du soleil naissant.

    Quand le
    souffle du
    soleil trasforme
    l'harmonie en
    un chant silencieux
    je sens, dans
    la mer, la voix
    perpétuelle d'une
    rime délicate.

    Francesco Sinibaldi

  11. Lol, this reminds me of Pride and Prejudice. Good fun!

  12. The bridge of your flowers.

    A bright
    melody is the
    singing that
    gives me the
    trace of delicate
    winds, with
    a loving idea
    near a persuasive
    care.

    Francesco Sinibaldi

  18. Canción.

    Como el
    soplo del sol
    que puro
    regresa regalando
    el amor, como
    canto dichoso
    en la flor de
    la vida....

  20. Informative and sharp article that assists with religious vs. equal rights polemic. An interesting article in light of the kidnapping of the Syrian female blogger. It also helps highlight the democratic movement currently going on in the Middle East.

  21. Thank you Lana for this informative article. It would be extremely sad if the Arab Spring revolutions end up by depraving women of rights they had gained over the years, instead of fulfilling the promise of a better life.

  22. A perceptive, well written artcle which highlights the conttradictions between coservate Islam, democracy and equal rights. This issue will certainly be central in the future of the Arab Spring revolutions.

  23. Another excellent piece of in-depth reportage by the writers working at Granta. Keep up the good work.

  24. Thank you. An excellent, informative article.
