J'aime beaucoup...
J'aime beaucoup
l'écorce d'un
arbre qui chante
dans la rime
d'un chêne infini,
j'aime la naturelle
voix qui rappelle
la jeunesse et
une douce émotion.

Love the "Lambs here seem much more backward then down south"
I would think the 28p he spent on food was quite a lot for those days. Shame about the lack of cash machines

Harmonie.
Doucement,
comme un son
fugitif dans l'aube
de mes rêves,
comme un chant
qui revient en
donnant la lumière
et un souffle
de soleil.

In a violin.
There's the
flavour of a
clamorous dream,
in the light of
a violin: I give
you the digest
and a direct
emotion, I tell
you the truth
while a candle
appears....

In University, The Road to Wigan Pier changed how I saw the world. And George Orwell change how I write.
Thank you, Granta, for reminding me of this influence on my life.

A rather bit of pedestrian jottings that are no different then a million other diaries. No everything written by a famous author needs reproducing, as is evidenced here.

This is very exciting. Will future editions of Granta be available for Kindle or is this just a one-time thing?
Also, how does this affect print edition subscriptions. Can we convert our subscriptions to the Kindle edition?

well done Bilal! It's an excellent read. Felt very real. I really liked the Comrade's poem as well.

Favorite line: "who are you?"
Response: ‘I am a human, thank you." Unsettling in an odd sort of way.

Comme créer une poésie....
La nature
engageante est
comme le soleil
qui souffle
dans le chant
du matin et
cette harmonie,
en donnant
une lumière,
devient perpétuelle
comme la voix
des sourires.

Every day of your life.
Every day
of your life
is a luminous
moment and
every sunshine,
when the light
fades away, is
a magical quietness.

La nieve delicada en primavera.
( other version )
Como una
sonrisa que brilla
en la ternura
de un niño triste
y desolado, como
la muerte de
un sol silente
y lleno de pasión,
como la nieve
en el invierno
umbroso y fugitivo...

El cielo de color amatista.
El canto
perpetuo de las
aves describe
la palidez y
una voz candorosa,
y esta rima, en
el silencio, dona
el sabor de
una noche estrellada.

In Santiago Roncagliolo's questionnaire it says Navarro instead of Roncagliolo. Did you just misspell the last name and those are his real answers or did you copy a wrong questionnaire? Thank you for checking

Nice to read your work again Eduardo. I share a lot of your frustration and admiration for Guatemala. I also lived abroad for a long time and came back with a stupid idea; the idea was to help and change this country, but what I have learned through the years since I came back (Left when I was 18 to Norway) is that guatemalan society is not a typical society at all. I am mostly certain that we do not love democracy, you can constantly hear people longing for the "old days" the militarized days of the country. Death penalty, terrible punishment to the "commies" and the indigenous where they are suppose to be. Human rights are for first world countries and well, a lot of bull from the old, sad and pathetic extreme right. Greetings Eduardo, I am also leaving the country soon, I should have done it long before, but wrongly I thought that things could be different. From a sad and frustrated fellow guatemalan.
