Granta News

Evie Wyld, one of the first writers to appear in Granta.com’s New Voices series, has just secured a publishing deal for her debut novel, After the Fire, A Still Small Voice. An extract from the novel, ‘Something Close to Heaven’, first appeared on Granta.com earlier this year.
After the Fire, A Still Small Voice follows the fortunes of a young Australian returning home from the Vietnam War. In an interview with Granta.com, Wyld said that the novel was ‘about men and the things they can’t talk about’, and that the experiences of the main character, Leon, were partly inspired by the story of her Australian uncle who was conscripted to fight in Vietnam.
The novel will be published by Jonathan Cape in the UK in August 2009 and by Pantheon in the US in September 2009.
