Gomorrah

|

In 2006 the Italian journalist Roberto Saviano published Gomorrah, a book about the brutal world of the Camorra, the Neopolitan Mafia. A bestseller in Italy, Gomorrah has since been translated into English and published in the UK and US; last year this magazine published an extract, ‘Naples ’04’, in Granta 99.

Now Italian director Matteo Garrone has produced a film based on Saviano’s book. Gomorrah (the movie) was the winner of the Grand Prix Award at this year’s Cannes Festival, and was released in Canada in September and in the United States on October 3. The UK release date is October 10.

Saviano, who was born in Naples in 1979, is currently living under armed guard.
