Granta Audio: Vinicius Jatobá and Jethro Soutar
This week on the Granta Podcast, Best of Young Brazilian Novelist Vinicius Jatobá and his translator Jethro Soutar talk to online editor Ted Hodgkinson about the challenges of rendering a story described by Melanie Rae Thon as ‘mesmerizing, incantatory . . . an eighteen-page lyric poem, a single sentence spanning generations, a broken-open elegy vast enough to be a novel.’ They also discuss the role of China in the story and the peculiar and intimate bond between author and translator.
