Granta today confirmed the departure of editor Jason Cowley, who will take up the editorship of the New Statesman later in the year.
Granta publisher Sigrid Rausing said, ‘In his short time here, Jason has had a tremendously positive impact on the magazine, not least in building a very strong and talented team around him. As sad as I am to see him go, I completely understand the irresistible pull of the opportunity at the New Statesman, and wish him every success.’
Jason Cowley adds: ‘It has been a huge privilege to edit Granta and to work for Sigrid Rausing. I had no wish to leave and it was a difficult decision to choose to do so, but the New Statesman, which I am joining as editor in September, were very persistent in their approaches and it is a magazine with which I have a long association. During my time as editor, and working closely with managing director David Graham, we have relaunched and redesigned Granta to wide acclaim and launched a new website and online magazine, Granta.com – it has been a thrilling period.’
