In our latest podcast, Ellah Allfrey speaks to Dinaw Mengestu – winner of the Guardian First Book Award and one of the New Yorker’s ‘20 Under 40’ fiction writers – about the trip he made to Eastern Congo for Granta. In this interview with Ellah Allfrey, Dinaw reads from his essay, ‘They Always Come in the Night’, before reflecting on the complexity of the conflict in Eastern Congo and the role of a foreign reporter in such an environment.
