Olga Tokarczuk

|

Olga Tokarczuk has just been awarded the twelfth Polish Nike Literary Prize for her latest book. Bieguni (‘Runners’) is a mixture of essays and short stories grouped around the idea of the contemporary nomad. The title refers to a seventeenth-century Orthodox sect who believed that only those in constant motion are able to resist the devil.

An earlier novel by Tokarczuk, House of Day, House of Night, is published in English by Granta Books. ‘Marek, Marek’, an extract from that novel, appears in Granta 78.

Read ‘Marek, Marek’ here.
