Editor’s welcome

Welcome to Granta.com, our new website and online magazine. I hope you will enjoy exploring the site and regularly return to it. The site will be used not only to showcase our quarterly magazine, which has been redesigned and reinvigorated, and to keep you informed of what is happening here at Granta, but also to publish exclusively online new writing from all over the world, especially new fiction from emerging writers, irrespective of the language in which they write.

One of the revelations of becoming editor of Granta was discovering just how many writers out there in the world of letters want to write for the magazine. Accordingly, a feature of the new site is that every two weeks we will be publishing a new short story, in our ‘New Voices’ section. Many of these writers will not have agents, and some will have never been previously published. But all will be of exceptional promise. (Please note that we will not be accepting unsolicited submissions via email.)

Our online editor, Roy Robins, will be blogging on the site as will other members of the editorial team and assorted guests and Granta contributors. There will be podcasts, videos, reports, columns and interviews. We have digitized our archive of 100 issues and will be uploading an issue a week over the next two years. All subscribers will have free access to the archive.

In June we shall launch comment and tagging facilities as the site becomes fully interactive. We want visitors to contribute to what I hope will become a vibrant online literary discussion, the expression of a dedicated community of writers and readers.
